Aces had little trouble disposing off the B-Meg Llamados 105-86 Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum

ALASKA drew another career game from Jason Forte and thus had its Finals quest in the PBA Governors Cup alive and still very much kicking.

With Forte anchoring a sterling all-around game on a conference-high 42 points, the Aces had little trouble disposing off the B-Meg Llamados 105-86 Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The win was Alaska’s second in four semifinal round games and seventh in 12 overall, putting it at third-running spot behind 8-3 Talk ‘N Text and 7-4 Barangay Ginebra, which were set to duel later in the evening.

If the Aces win over Rain or Shine on Wednesday and the Kings lose both to the Tropang Texters and Elasto Painters at semis end on Friday, then the Uytengsu-owned franchise goes on to the best-of-seven championship series.

That is a lot of ifs for Alaska coach Tim Cone’s liking, making him hark back to a 77-81 loss to Barangay Ginebra last Friday.

“The thing we were talking about before the Ginebra game was that we control our own destiny,” related Cone. “The opportunity was there and we weren’t ready to seize that.

“Now we can only control the things we can control, which is coming out, do battle and let the cards fall where they may. But we are ready to seize the opportunity. We’ll just be hanging around, see where it all ends up. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.”

Cone’s charges, led by the seemingly indefatigable Forte, are sure keeping that spark of hope alive.

Forte, who posted his previous PBA career-best of 36 points in an 88-81 win over Petron Blaze last Sunday, laced his latest milestone with a game-high 17 rebounds and six assists.

Local support was aplenty, with Sonny Thoss, Tony dela Cruz and LA Tenorio chipping in at least 10 points each. Tenorio also had eight assists.

Dela Cruz’s fellow relievers, Mark Borboran and Bonbon Custodio, also turned in significant contributions to help make up for the continued absence of Cyrus Baguio and, most recently, Wesley Gonzales, who suffered a right knee injury in the Ginebra game.

“Those are two starters taken out of our lineup, but we’d continue to do battle,” noted Cone.

James Yap’s 25 points and PJ Simon’s 18 led B-Meg, which dropped to 1-3 in the semis and 5-7 in all.

The Llamados came into the game just aiming to salvage some pride but failed even in that after first failing to contain Forte and then the likes of Thoss, Borboran and Tenorio in the stretch.

Yap was responsible for leading B-Meg back from a 41-54 deficit to within 64-68, after scoring nine points capped by a buzzer-beating triple, in the last 2:19 of the third period.

Things almost turned bleak for Alaska after Jayr Reyes got ejected for a flagrant foul-penalty 2 on Jerwin Gaco with 21 seconds left in the quarter. The 6-7 forward-center delivered a blow on the back of Gaco’s hand following a rebound battle.

Thoss then simply took the lead, scoring the first four points of the fourth before the likes of Borboran, Tenorio and Forte took over for the runaway win.

Forte already had his 12th double-double at the half with 18 points and 11 rebounds, helping Alaska battle from an early nine-point deficit and into a 37-35 lead at the break.

The muscular 6-5 native built his first-round production around seven offensive rebounds.

Alaska actually already had 14 offensive boards in the first 24 minutes of play, equaling B-Meg’s total, and had a 13-rebound advantage that offset the Aces’ 17-of-43 field shooting. (NC)

The scores:

ALASKA 105 – Forte 42, Thoss 17, Dela Cruz 15, Tenorio 10, Borboran 9, Custodio 7, Thiele 3, Reyes 2, Dimaunahan 0, Cablay 0.

B-MEG 86 – Yap J. 25, Simon 18, Urbiztondo 9, Devance 7, Pingris 6, Reavis 6, Allen 5, Gaco 4, Allado 4, Fernandez 2, Adducul 0

Heartbreaking Loss for the Llamados VS Talk n Text ( July 29, 2011)

To be exaggerated, it was a mind boggling; heart breaking and a soul crushing loss for the Llamados against the conference leader  Tropang texters tonight (July 29 2011).  B-meg bowed to Talk and text with  final score of 89-101.

Bmeg had their chance to cacth up with talk and text in the end of the 3rd quarter. James Yap led the rally by playing with all heart,  making the talk and text lead downed to just 3 points. Pj Simon missed a 3 points jumper that may tie the ball game.

Scott Reynolds do what he had to do best, stopping the rally of the Llamados. Talk and text import, won’t allow the Bmeg to do what they did on Rain or Shine, showcasing his conference high with 37 big points because he was aware to the ability of the Llamados to snatch a came from behind victory.

On the other hand, the 8th win for The Talk and text secured them to the first outright finals birth.  Not just that, this win gave them 50 % chances to add history to the storybook of the PBA. It was been long time seen a PBA team made a GRANDSLAM and the tropang texters are very upbeat to make history.

James Yap, Roger Yap and Peter Jun Simon may Not Play Today Because of Injury

One of the most fearful things to happen to any basketball team is to get stung by the injury bug. Sad to say, this is one of the dillemas of the B-meg Derby Ace llamados is facing this conference.

As  B meg's key players ,Kerby Raymundo, Rico Maierhoper and Jonas Villanueva are being sidelined because of their rampant injuries. Yesterday, 3 more llamados were not seen in the team’s practice. Complaining about their minor injuries,   James Yap, Peter Jun Simon and Roger Yap were unable to attend to the said practice.

Jonas Villanueva’s yesterdays tweet said “Please pray 4 our game tom vs TnT. Roger Yap may not be able to play because of a sprained right ankle. Good thing though we got josh now, yeah! :)”

Meanwhile, up to now, there were still no updates or confirmation if the 3 bmeg players could play or not. Let us just all pray that they will play for tonight’s game.

“Mas magaling ang b-meg kapag nalalagay sa alanganing sitwasyon. ”

B-meg Derby Ace Llamados (5W-5L) will fight for its survival as they collide with the league’s best record Talk n Text (7W-3L) tomorrow July 29, 2011 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum exactly at 5:30pm.

Every game for the llamados is important, a single lose will give them no chance to be in the conference finals. However, the entire team of the B-meg remains positive to the situation. For them, this is a big opportunity to showcase the team’s calibre to be the champion.

“Mas magaling ang b-meg kapag nalalagay sa alanganing sitwasyon. Nagawa na nila nuon alam kong magagawa pa rin nila ngayon” an avid b-meg fan said.

The llamados defeated the tropang texters in their first meeting last June 30, 2011 in Dubai. James Yap, Peter jun Simon, Marck Pingris, Joe Devance, Myron Allen with the second units of the llamados are very serious to win every game. They promise that  they will do what they can do to help the team to win.

B-MEG FACES GINEBRA, GUNS FOR 2nd SEMIS WIN

ALMOST 48 hours since pulling off a great escape act against Rain or Shine, B-Meg is again bound to face a team that exactly plays and look like the Elasto Painters.

The Llamados gun for a second straight win in the semifinals of the PBA Governors Cup Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum, taking on a Barangay Ginebra squad which to B-Meg coach Jorge Gallent, is precisely a clone of Rain or Shine.

“We will play a team that’s like Rain or Shine,” said Gallent. “They just like to push the ball. They have a quick import, he matches their system. Ginebra loves to run and we just have to sprint back on defense.”

B-Meg opened its semifinal stint on Friday with a gripping 99-98 win over Rain or Shine, one which saw the Llamados rallied from a deficit as high as 48-65 in the third period.

Peter June Simon banked in the game-winning shot in the final 21.7 seconds of the ball game, before the Llamados watched in delight as Elasto Painters import Arizona Reid missed on a potential winning basket in the waning seconds.

The Llamados tied the Alaska Aces at 5-4 following the come-from-behind win.

Reid’s personal-conference high of 41 points were put to naught following the loss, Rain or Shine’s third straight for a 4-5 (win-loss) slate overall.

Like Rain or Shine, B-Meg will also have to contend with another prolific import in Ginebra’s Donald Sloan.

Sloan exploded for 32 points in the Kings’98-90 win over the Elasto Painters during the final day of the eliminations.

The Kings, playing their first game in the semis, are currently tied with Petron for second place with similar 5-3 cards.

Coach Jong Uichico is keeping his fingers crossed Sloan will continue to blend with the team as the semifinal phase progresses.

“Our goal is to still get Sloan accustomed to our system for us to have better chemistry,” said Uichico. “Until now, we’re adjusting. All of the games here in the semi-finals are important. You can call it no-tomorrow games.”

Gallent definitely agrees.

“We just have to save our legs and play as hard as we played yesterday (Friday) against Ginebra,” he said. (GR)

James Yap Scoreless versus the SMART Allstar lead by Kobe Bryant

Biggest cheers in the arena were reserved for Bryant, the SMART-All Stars’ playing coach. The Lakers’ superstar, who did not play in the fourth quarter when the game had already been decided, was serenaded by chants by the Filipino crowd egging him to put himself back in the game.

Bryant ended with only 12 points, which might as well have been the loudest 12 points in the history of the game. The 32-year-old guard turned back time, throwing down three sensational alley-oop slams as if he were still a hotshot 18-year-old rookie, including a reverse dunk off a Chris Paul pass off the backboard in the second quarter.

On the other hand, The two time PBA MVP James Yap was unable to contribute even a single point in the game. Some sources said that Yap sufferes from a sleeping disorder.

"ang hirap talga matulog after the game"
"4 na oras lang tulog ko"-james yap said in twitter

Despite the beatdown, the PBA players, which included James Yap, Mark Caguioa, Sonny Thoss, Jason Castro, Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, Larry Fonacier, Ryan Reyes, Danny Seigle, Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Marc Pingris, Gary David, Sol Mercado, LA Tenorio, Gabe Norwood, and JC Intal, were visibly happy sharing the court with their idols.

Bryant himself was impressed by the performance of the locals, who were led by Santos with 25 points.

“I love the passion they play with,” he said. “They play with a lot of energy.”

The SMART All-Stars led by Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul romped to a 131-105 win over a selection of Philippine basketball players on Saturday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum. But despite the lopsided scores, everyone in the venue – including the NBA superstars’ victims – went home happy after the game highlighted by thunderous dunks and above-the-rim action.

Bryant and company will take the court once more on Sunday against the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team at 1 p.m., also at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

The Scores:

Smart All-Stars 131 - McGee 25, Durant 22, Williams 19, Evans 17, Harden 16, Bryant 12, Paul 11, Rose 9, Fisher 0.

PBA All-Stars 105 - Santos 25, Cabagnot 9, Pingris 9, Al-Hussaini 8, Mercado 8, David 8, Norwood 7, Reyes 6, Thoss 4, Castro 4, Caguioa 4, Seigle 4, Intal 4, Fonacier 3, Tenorio 2, Yap 0.

Quarter scores: 30-26, 66-50, 107-78, 131-105.

No Time to Rest For Bmeg DerBy Ace LLamdos Star James Yap and Marc Pingriz in their 3 Game Marathon

Starting today, as the Bmeg Derby Ace Llamados campaign for the championship. The 2 time MVP "big game" James Yap and  the  2011 Allstar MVP Marc Pingris will  have no more time out  for their  three game marathon with Rain or Shine ( July 22, 2011)  NBA All star with Kobe ( July 23, 2011) and against the crowd Favorite Brgy. Ginebra (July 24, 2011).

It is be better if  Yap and Pingris will not play for the all star selection against Kobe and the rest of the NBA stars. They need to rest and prepare for every game because with the llamados standing(4-4), to increase the chance to their quest for championship trophy, losing is not an option.

Tired legs will have a big impact to their games but the two llamados stars promise to their fans that they will Play with all their hearts and determination.

Meanwhile, basketball is not an 2 man game. The Bmeg Derby Ace Llamados will also rely to the scoring of Super Sub Peter Jun Simon, to the offensive monster Joe Devance, new import Myron Allen, newly Aquired Josh Urbiztondo, The long arms of Raffi Reaves, the leadership of Roger Yap, and the support of the rest of the team.

B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados Will Try Their New Import Myron Allen as They Collide with The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Semis

B-Meg coach Jorge Gallent readily pointed to their inability to play consistently as the cause of
the Llamados’ struggles in the elimination round of the 2011 PBA Governors’ Cup.

With pressure off their shoulders, he expects his troops to pick up the pace and raise their level
of intensity in the semifinals.
“We have to play consistently to be able to compete [for a Finals berth]. Hopefully this game will
bring us to that attitude to play 48 minutes of basketball,” said Gallent after the Llamados
closed out their elimination round assignment with a 111-89 victory over Air21 last July 15 to
secure their place in the round of six.

Gallent is also counting on import Myron Allen and new acquisition Josh Urbiztondo to make an
immediate impact to bolster the team’s drive for a second straight win.

Allen is a replacement for Darnell Hinson – who cut short his PBA stint and rushed back to the
States to attend to a child custody hearing – while Urbiztondo was netted from the unrestricted
free agent market to fill the shoes of Jonas Villanueva, who underwent surgery to repair his
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.

The duo will be making their debut on Friday as B-Meg opens its semifinal drive against Rain or
Shine at 5:30 p.m. at the Araneta Colseum.

The Elasto Painters dominated the Llamados in their only meeting in the eliminations, 95-82. They
should be more dangerous on Friday as they try to bounce back from a frustrating 90-98 loss to
Barangay Ginebra last Wednesday at the close of the elimination round.

B-Meg and ROS finished the eliminations with 4-4 [win-loss] records which they will carry into the
six-team, single round semi-finals.

Although only one game separates the teams in the standings, B-Meg and ROS have their sights on
winning four of five games to secure a playoff for the second Finals spot.

“I hope naka-adjust na si Myron sa system ng team because he only arrived last Sunday,” said
Gallent, who expects Urbiztondo to provide the team with the energy similar to what former guard
Paul Artadi brings before he was traded to Air21.

That should be no problem for Urbiztondo, who could be a nightmare for any opponent once he gets
hot. In contrast, Allen, with his 5-11 frame, could encounter some mismatch problems defending
against bigger guards.

But Gallent believes it all boils down to consistency.

“We need to ride the momentum of that big win against Air21 and do the things we did then in order
for us to have better chances of winning against ROS. We need to share the ball more and keep on
trusting each other,” Gallent said. (DBC)
